Beat of DC with Capital City Go-Go

On March 4, 2025, local K–12 students filled the stands for an exciting day. For the third season, in partnership with Capital City Go-Go's Go-Go Education Day, Teach the Beat brought the house down with a blend of basketball and D.C.’s signature go-go music.
This season’s experience opened with a performance from a local high school drill team, hyping up the crowd before the players filled the court. Throughout the game, go-go beats filled the arena with our Teach the Beat teaching artists keeping students, parents, and teachers dancing in their seats and in the aisles during quarter breaks.
Uncle Devin took the mic to introduce students to the art of hamboning and the "Three S’s"(Shake, Scrape, Strike) — a hands-on lesson in rhythm, movement, and musical expression. Juju kept the energy up by inviting students to play the congas, adding their own beats to the soundtrack of the day.

The halftime show is always a highlight, with Teach the Beat teaching artists Uncle Devin, Juju, Swamp Guinee, and Sweet Cherie performing classic go-go rhythms and getting the whole crowd to clap, stomp, and sway to the beat.

Students don’t go home empty-handed.
